FAYETTEVILLE The Andrews High School men’s golf team competed in the 1A state championship on May 11-12 at Gates Four Golf & Country Club.
1A men’s golfers traveled to Fayetteville as they vie for a state championship.
The wildcats finished in sixth place as a team after shooting 808 over the two rounds. As a team, they shot 401 in the first round on May 11 and 407 on May 12.
2nd round
Andrews’ highest individual finisher was Brady Queen. He shot 91 in the second round to finish in a tie for 15th place.
Queen’s two-round total was 177.
Braylen Maennle shot 105 in the second round of play to finish in solo 39th place. He total for the tournament was 204.
Tucker Stalcup shot 106 in the second round to finish in a tie for 40th place. Stalcup’s two-round total was 206.
Brady McLelland finished in solo 46th place after a second round 105 – 11 strokes better than his opening round score. His total for the tournament was 221.
1st round
After the first round of play at Gates Four, Andrews was in sixth place in the team scores. The Wildcats shot 401 as a team in the opening round.
Queen led the Wildcats with an opening round 86. He shot 40 on the front nine and 46 on the back nine. After the first round, he was tied for ninth with two other golfers.
Maennle had an opening round 99 to sit in a tie for 36th after the opening 18 holes. He shot 49 on the front nine and 50 on the back nine.
Stalcup sat in a tie for 39th after the first round after shooting 100. He shot 50 on both the front and back nines.
McLelland shot 116 in the opening round to be in solo 47th place. He shot 60 on the front nine and 56 on the back nine.
Andrews senior Logan Shuler qualified for the state championship, but he did not play.
Champions
Northside (Pinetown) won the 1A state championship as a team and had the individual champion.
As a team, Northside (Pinetown) shot 670 over the two rounds, with 331 in the first round 339 in the second round.
Junior Christopher Stembridge was the individual 1A state championship. He shot 155 over the two rounds with 75 in the first round and 80 in the second round. He won the state title by six strokes.
Bear Grass Charter senior Dylan Arnold shot 76 in the second round for the only sub-80 round on the second day of the tournament.
Stembridge and Arnold, as well as Tyler Measamer of Chatham Central were the only ones to break 80 during the state championship. Measamer – who finished in second place – shot 78 in the opening round.
