With 35 runs across two games, the Andrews varsity baseball team ended the regular season by sweeping Cherokee.
The Wildcats capped off a 19-2 regular season with a dominant series against the Braves.
Cats beat Braves
The Wildcats opened their final regular season series by defeated Cherokee 10-3 on the road on April 28. The Braves took an early lead after scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Cats got on the board in the top of the second inning as they scored one run. They then took the lead in the top of the third after scoring two runs to lead 3-2.
They made it 4-2 with one run in the top of the fourth. Cherokee scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut Andrews’ lead to 4-3.
Andrews then extended its lead again with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Wildcats then added four more runs in the top of the seventh inning.
The Cats held Cherokee scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to win.
Logan Shuler and Drew Dartez scored two runs each to lead the Wildcats. Logan Hyde, Aiden Garrett, Dawson Stalcup and Kelby Waldroup also scored one run each.
Shuler also led the team with two stolen bases. Waldroup and Tanner Postell had one stolen base each.
On the mound, Hyde pitched 6.1 innings and racked up 12 strikeouts. Brady Queen pitched 0.2 inning to help the Cats get the win.
Cats score 25
In their final regular season game, the Wildcats dominated the Braves and won 25-1 at home Thursday.
The Braves took a short-lived lead in the top of the first with one run, then the Wildcats scored four runs to take the lead. Andrews scored four more runs in the bottom of the second inning to lead 8-1.
In the bottom of the third, the Wildcats drove in 12 runs to take a 20-1 lead through three innings. The runs kept rolling for the Wildcats as they added five more in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead 25-1.
After holding the Braves scoreless in the top of the fifth, the Cats ended the regular season with a win.
Shuler led the Wildcats on senior night as he scored five runs. Hyde and Garrett scored four runs each. Garrett led the team with four RBI.
Postell led the team with three stolen bases. Shuler, Garrett, Dartez and Waldroup had two stolen bases each.
On the mound, Shuler and Waldroup combined for the win. Waldroup had seven strikeouts and Shuler had two, while both allowed only one hit each.
