After 17 consecutive wins, the Andrews baseball team fell to Hayesville.
The Yellow Jackets – who are undefeated in Smoky Mountain Conference competition – got the series sweep over the Wildcats.
Cats fall on road
In the first game of the two-game series against Hayesville, the Wildcats fell 11-1 on the road Thursday. The loss ends the Wildcats’ 17 game win streak.
The Cats got on the board first as Dawson Stalcup scored in the top of the first inning to give Andrews an early lead.
The lead was short-lived as Hayesville scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead. Hayesville then scored three runs in both the second and third innings to take a 9-1 lead.
The Yellow Jackets then scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to win the game 11-1 and hand the Wildcats their first loss of the season.
Aiden Garrett had the Wildcats’ lone hit in the ballgame. Stalcup also had their only stolen base en route to scoring their only run.
Boys fall 13-10
They were back on the field the following day in Andrews as the Jackets fought off a late rally to win 13-10 on Friday.
Both teams scored two runs in the opening frame, then Hayesville scored five runs in the top of the second inning to take a 7-2 lead. Andrews cut into the lead with one run in the third and fourth innings to trail 7-4.
Hayesville then had a five-run fifth inning to extend its lead to 12-4. The Jackets then made it 13-4 with one run in the top of the sixth inning.
The Wildcats rallied late to put six runs on the board, but came up short of catching the Yellow Jackets.
Logan Shuler and Brady McLelland led the Wildcats as they scored two runs each.
Kelby Waldroup hammered a home run and also had a double in the game. Shuler, Stalcup and Logan Hyde had one stolen base each.

The Cats will wrap up the regular season at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Cherokee.
