Cherokee – Teams in the Smoky Mountain Conference headed to Cherokee to compete in the Track & Field Championship.
Five local athletes claimed the conference title in their respective events during the meet on April 30.
Ethan Russell of Hiwassee Dam won the 3,200-meter run, Logan Shuler of Andrews won the high jump and Myca Mustin of Andrews won triple jump. Camden Breazeale of Murphy dominated the hurdles and claimed the win in both the 110m and 300m hurdles. Cale Harger of Murphy also won the long jump.
Boys earning top-five finishes in the track events include Joshua Bickham of Tri-County Early College in fourth place in the 200m dash, with Oscar Page of Hiwassee Dam coming in third in the 800m and third in the 1,600m.
Russell also came in second in the 1,600m. Maverick Hawley of Hiwassee Dam came in third in the 3,200m.
In the boys relay events, Andrews earned second in the 4x100m and fifth in the 5x400m. Murphy earned second in the 4x200m and fourth in the 4x100m. Tri-County earned third in the 4x800, fourth in the 4x400m and fifth in the 4x200m.
In the boys field events, Jonah Dockery of Hiwassee Dam came in third in high jump. In long jump, Kegan Ellis of Andrews came in third and William Boyd of Tri-County came in fifth.
Anthony Catuto of Murphy came in fifth in the triple jump. William Wood of Andrews came in second in discus. Aaron Harger of Murphy came in fifth in the shot put.
Girls earning top-five finishes in the track events include Kylie Donaldson of Andrews coming in second and Juliet Holloway coming in fourth in the 100m dash. Rylee Tabor of Murphy came in fifth in the 100m dash. Donaldson came in second in the 200m, while Corrine Cotton of Murphy came in fifth.
Cotton also came in third in the 400m. Fern Crayton of Tri-County came in fourth and Khloe Mayfield of Andrews came in fifth in the 800m. Crayton came in second in the 1,600m and third in the 3,200m.
In the 100m hurdles, Kaiya Ellis of Andrews came in second and Sadie Cornwell came in fourth.
In the girls relay events, Murphy came in third and Andrews came in fourth in the 4x100m. Murphy came in third and Andrews came in fourth in the 4x200m. Andrews came in fourth and Tri-County came in fifth in the 4x400m. Andrews came in fourth in the 4x800m.
In girls field events, Alexis Beasley came in second in shot put and Demi Davis came in fifth. Kaiya Ellis came in fourth in high jump. Holloway came in fifth in the long jump, while Donaldson came in third in triple jump. In discus, Amelia Joyner of Murphy came in third, Jaden Crocker of Andrews came in fourth and Ansley Roper of Murphy came in fifth.
