Angela Morris of Blairsville, Ga., with her three children – Michael, 15; Isaac, 14; and Caroline, 11; lost their home Sunday in an accidental explosion. All the children attend The Learning Center charter school in Murphy.
Blairsville, Ga. – A local family with students enrolled at The Learning Center charter school in Murphy is still in shock after their home was destroyed in an explosion Sunday afternoon in Union County, Ga.
Angela Morris is a single mother raising three children, and on Sunday afternoon the unthinkable happened. Morris’s adult daughter, Mary Barnard of Murphy, said an unknown propane leak led to an explosion, which left the uninsured home a complete loss.
“There is no insurance, so they will be starting from scratch once cleanup happens,” Barnard said.
Christiana Morris, 20, and her boyfriend, as well as one of the underage children, were home when the explosion occurred. Barnard said luckily there were no serious injuries reported, with Union County Fire, Emergency Medical Services and the sheriff’s office responding to the accident.
The family is in need of everything at this time, as they lost all of their belongings in the accident.
“They will need a little bit of everything,” Barnard said. “Money, clothing and personal items, food and toiletries.”
A GoFundMe has been set up for the family, and benefits are being planned for the future.
“My mom has put her heart and soul into this property to make it a beautiful home for herself and her children,” Barnard said. “They are absolutely devastated with the loss of everything.”
