    Thomas “Tommy” Neal Hiers, 76, of Murphy, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022.
    He was born in Duval County, Fla., to the late Fletcher and Delores Zittraver Hiers.
    Tommy was a U.S. Marine veteran. He served during the Vietnam War.
    He was owner/operator of Hiers Welding Company. Tommy welded water towers. He also worked on the Apollo Mission for NASA and for Lockheed Martin.
    Tommy enjoyed riding motorcycles.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Hiers.
    He is survived by his wife, Sandra Roberts Hiers; mother of their children, Linda Higbe of Somerset, Ky.; two sons, Troy Hiers and fiancee Christena Livingston of Murphy, and Buzz Allen Hiers and Valerie Smith of Mims, Fla.; one daughter, Trina Lynn Henson and husband Ken Henson of Titusville, Fla.; one brother, Henry Hiers of Pickens, S.C.; three grandchildren, Tommy Ryan Hiers, Angela Marie Hiers and Billy Powell; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Hiers and Alexander Lloyd Hiers.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Rev. Jerry Morrow officiated. Music was provided by Marion Morgan. Burial was in Bellview Community Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 96 Murphy, American Legion Post 532 Hayesville, VFW Post 6812 Hayesville, and the Marine Corps League, Marble.
    The family received friends from noon-2 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home.
