A memorial service was held at Peachtree Fire and Rescue Department for member Alan Andrews, who was previously the Chief of Grape Creek Fire Department. Alan's wife Kim accepts a folded U.S. flag from Peachtree Fire Chief Jordan Messer.
MURPHY – It was a long procession from Ivie Funeral Home on May 8, to the Peachtree Fire and Rescue Department after the funeral service of Alan Edward Andrews.
The line of fire trucks, personnel, family and friends took the long route ensuring the procession passed by Grape Creek Fire Department, Station 16, where Andrews proudly served as Chief.
He was also a member of the Peachtree Fire and Rescue Department, continuing to work and attend additional training despite being ill. Andrews was loved and respected by members of both departments, as demonstrated by the turnout at his service.
It was a sad day filled with the tears of loss and a longing to hear the hearty laugh of Andrews, if for just a moment more.
Andrews was born in London on Aug. 12, 1965. He accomplished many things in his life including serving in the British Army.
He also lived in Scotland where he purchased a small farm and raised sheep, cattle, pigs and hens.
He wanted to be a firefighter and joined the Grape Creek Fire Department in 2018.
He enrolled in firefighting school in 2020. From there, Andrews went on to complete emergency medical training. He went from a basic level to that of an advanced medic.
On Jan. 2, 2024, Andrews stepped into the role of fire chief at Grape Creek Fire Department by a vote of the members.
Andrews was a friendly guy with a big laugh whose desires were to help other people even throughout his illness.
He was talented with the bagpipes and especially liked playing "Amazing Grace."
Two flags were displayed over passing vehicles in his honor – the U.S. Flag and that of the United Kingdom.
After the funeral and procession, a memorial service was held at the Peachtree Fire and Rescue Department.
During the service Kim Andrews was presented with several items including a department flag, Andrews' helmet and a folded U.S. flag presented by Peachtree Fire Chief Jordan Messer.
The community's loss was great, the love profound, the memories innumerable.
