Ivie champion of Main Street

N.C. Main Street held its 25th annual conference Thursday. Each Main Street community was given the opportunity to select an individual, couple, civic organization, business partnership or government entity that made a significant contribution to the success of downtown in 2025.

Designation as an N.C. Main Street Champion is a high honor, recognizing the efforts of individuals who have been instrumental in downtown revitalization. Murphy Main Street was proud to nominate and honor Victoria Ivie as the local 2025 N.C. Main Street Champion.

“I want to have reasons for people to still call Murphy home. My husband is a third-generation small business owner in downtown Murphy,” said Ivie, executive director of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce. “When I was on maternity leave and wanted something to do with my kids, I started working on projects to improve our community spaces with family friendly and inclusive outdoor recreation activities.

“Outdoor exercise equipment in the park is now live, usable and functional. I hope that people of all ages and family life situations will take advantage of it. My goal was to provide a safe place to exercise and get outdoors.

“I’m really excited about that. Playground activities and amenities that are handicapped accessible and inclusive is another project. Due to limited funding, the toddler section couldn’t be replaced at Konehete-Veterans Park. We recently received grant funding to replace this section of the playground.

“I want to keep that small town feeling in Murphy with something for everyone that shows that we care about the people who live here and visit here. Things are changing, and it’s scary at first, but it’s also for the best for us to keep up and keep moving.”
