Murphy man suspected of having IED

Murphy – Joshua James Saienni, 36, of Granite Cove Lane, was arrested on three counts of possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

On Aug. 19, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded to  Granite Cove Lane for a larceny followup. While they were on scene, deputies located what appeared to be three explosive devices. Deputies detained a man at the scene and requested additional support.

According to court documents, Sienna possessed an improvised explosive device containing rocks and steel nuts as shrapnel on Aug. 19.

Saienni has a conviction for second-degree trespassing in December 2022 following a plea agreement to dismiss a charge of simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance. His court documents don’t specific the controlled substance, but Schedule II substances include ketamine, anabolic steroids, testosterone and certain barbiturates.

He was also convicted that same time on a misdemeanor larceny charge. Saienni’s address was listed in Florida at the time of his earlier charges.
