Scam calls countywide
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reports that its office received numerous calls last week regarding spam calls circulating in the area, according to a release.
These calls seem to be directed toward medical
providers in Cherokee County. The caller claims they are Chief Deputy Justin Jacobs contacting them over missed jury duty; then the caller attempts to extort money over the phone for missing it.
“Our office will never solicit money from anyone over the phone or in person. If you receive calls of this nature, hang up immediately,” the release says. “Once you pay them, the money is gone and in almost all cases is not recoverable.”
