Fundraiser goes to the dogs (of the K9 variety)

Murphy – Buck Bald Brewing was the place to be on Sept. 13 for those wanting to support a good cause while listening to live music and enjoying some local craft beer.

The event marked the fourth annual Bikes & Brews Fundraiser to help support law enforcement officers and their K9 partners. Buck Bald Brewing and the Nam Knights of America Motorcycle Club – Appalachian Chapter partnered to help raise money for ballistics vests for law enforcement canines.

The event brought out locals, visitors, cops and veterans to enjoy some camaraderie for the cause. Many of the patrons were cheerfully spending money on raffle tickets for some pretty cool prizes.

Prizes included gift certificates, electronics, spirits, tin signs as well as Harley Davidson products, gift baskets and more. There was also a 50/50 raffle, in which the winner took the money and donated it back to the cause.

Buck Bald Brewing even created a special brew just for the event called Peanut Butter Paws Stout.

Michael Foreman with Point Blank Enterprises Inc. is a retired law enforcement SWAT officer who knows the value of lifesaving equipment. He donated a ballistics vest and plate to the fundraising cause, as well as paying for the band and beer.

“I’m trying to help as much as I can. I’m glad to be a part-time resident of Cherokee County and just happy to help out wherever I can,” Foreman said.

A couple of years ago, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office benefitted from the vests for an officer
and his K9 partner. Each vest must be measured for a proper fit for both the law enforcement officer and dog.

Kyle Briley with the Georgia Police K9 Foundation had a table set up at the event with products
for donation. The organization covers active as well as retired law enforcement K9s.

For active dogs, they provide vests and heat alarm systems for the interior of the vehicle. For retired K9s, they assist with food, medical and other needs. They not only assist police with their dogs, but help veterans as well – and at no cost to the officer or veteran.

Folks appeared to be enjoying the day which offered warm and sunny skies. Just outside of the establishment were several impressive motorcycles lined up in a row that drew some admiration from passersby.

“It’s just wonderful to support the canines. The cause is amazing and the turnout is just wonderful. It’s a great day for it, and the people are so nice,” happy patron Kimberly Klindera of Marble said.

Chris “Sig” Poston with the Nam Knights was happy with the results.
