Murphy – The meeting room at Choices of WNC was active with folks who value the sanctity of human life last week.

An open house was held at 1262 Andrews Road from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 14, which included an informational slide show, a tour of the 6,500-square-foot facility and refreshments. The Murphy Pregnancy & Parenting Center offers men and women an opportunity to receive free assistance through classes, programs and resources, including free ultrasounds.

Alexis Bohanon is thankful to have a place to go to like Choices. She thinks her pregnancy may involve twins.

“I’m excited especially because not many places have something like this, and I get to experience it and have my family with me,” she said. “The staff seems really nice, and I’m looking forward to meeting all of them.”

On Jan. 13, 1984, President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation designating Jan. 22 as the first National Sanctity of Human Life Day. Jan. 22, 1973, was the day the U.S. Supreme Court
legalized abortion-on-demand in all 50 states via the Roe vs. Wade decision, which has since been overturned by the high court.

“Choices of WNC is a pro-life pregnancy resource center founded on the love of Jesus Christ, and we believe that life is a choice,” said Bonnie Doty, women’s services director.

Choices is a nonprofit organization funded by individual donors, churches and businesses in the community. It is operated by trained volunteers.
