2A-Blue Ridge Mountain EMC meeting offers insight

Young Harris, Ga. – Blue Ridge Mountain Electric Membership Corp. held its 87th annual meeting on Sept. 13, which brought out a few hundred people to the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center.

The meeting opened with the presentation of colors by the North Georgia Honor Guard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and invocation. The meeting’s agenda included special guest speakers, words from the Tennessee Valley Authority, the general manager’s report and entertainment.

The entertainment came from the Young Harris College Choir, with individual songs as well as a group song.

During the business portion of the meeting, officials discussed Blue Ridge Mountain’s partnership with TVA, products including fiber optics and growth, as well as the dangers line workers and other associates face in the course of their daily jobs.

Blue Ridge Mountain EMC serves members throughout five counties in Georgia and North Carolina – Cherokee, Clay, Fannin, Towns and Union. There are 59,596 total meters, 6,475 miles of power lines and 19,287 fiber-optic internet customers.

At the end of the meeting, members had an opportunity to win raffle prizes, which included $100, $500 and $1,000 gift certificates, plants and potted flowers. Lunch was also served to everyone in attendance.

Next year’s meeting will be held Saturday, Sept. 12.
