Murphy – Narrative Bookstore owner Brooke Adams and Wagner Worx Co-Working Bar owner Jinelle Wagner have found several opportunities to collaborate as business neighbors, such as movie and game nights.
One of the most recent being their Month Writing Workshop that began in August of this year. Starting at 6 p.m. every third Tuesday, writers can meet at Wagner Worx Co-Working Bar to engage with other writers in a workshop run by Rosabella Debty, a local writer.
Both Adams and Wagner refer to Debty as the “brain genius” of the workshop event. Debty is passionate about writing, but felt the area lacked a community for writers, especially outside of working hours.
“The main goal was to create a group that was meant for all writers. We have some who write fiction, poetry, songs, and even some academic writing. What you write doesn’t matter, and this group can help you to grow as a writer and meet your goals,” Debty said.
To which Adams and Wagner added, “We want to facilitate and provide an outlet for creatives.”
Each workshop typically has 10-20 attendees coming together. The workshop begins with a free-writing activity, but this will occasionally deviate.
For October, the writers worked on setting goals and creating vision boards related to what they wanted to accomplish in their writing in the upcoming year. After the free-write, or beginning activity, the group will break up into pairs or small groups to allow writers to share their work related to the given writing prompt. This is optional, but meant to be an opportunity to share in an encouraging environment.
Narrative Bookstore strives to provide books of all genres, host local author events and signings, and celebrate all things books with the community. Adams strives to stay engaged and contribute to the community by attending downtown events and partnering with businesses to encourage reading.
Wagner Worx Co-Working Bar is the first of its kind downtown. They refer to themselves as “your new favorite bar with a professional twist.”
They have office space, including a private room available for hourly rent, business resources, printing and networking opportunities. They officially started serving beer, wine and THC drinks Wednesday, but will still have all of the “mocktail” drinks, coffee and tea. “In the future, we would like to work with other businesses to bring more to the writers who join us every month. We have some ideas we’re working on, so keep an eye on Facebook for what’s to come,” Adams said.
Narrative Bookstore is planning its first Holiday Book Fair on Saturday.
