Unaka – The Unaka Community Development Club held another fun family game night Saturday.
Living in Unaka leaves many residents feeling like they have to leave their community for fellowship and entertainment, but this is something the Unaka Community Development Club is working to remedy. The game night was two hours full of fun and games, and included pizza from Downtown Pizza Co. in Murphy, with 15-20 kids and parents/grandparents on hand.
Nancy Helms often greets everyone at the door for any event at the Unaka Community Center, 14945 Joe Brown Highway.
“We love to see families coming out to have fun in our community each month,” she said. “It’s a highlight for many of us.”
The Unaka Community Development Club invites all area youth and parents to come out and have fun in a laid-back environment. Youth game night is held from 5-7 p.m. on every fourth Saturday of every month at the Unaka Community Center, welcoming youth of all ages and their parents and guardians.
All games and supplies are provided by the Unaka Community Development Club. They have cornhole games, plus and a hoop and room for kids to play basketball inside the center. Tables with bingo, puzzles, coloring books and cards are also available for kids and families to play together.
The Unaka Community Development Club recently added a ping-pong table for the kids to enjoy, and volunteers are always looking for items and games to add to their collection. Typically, youth game nights include pizza and a variety of snacks and drinks provided by the Unaka Community Development Club.
The Unaka Community Development Club also hosts weekly yoga at 6 p.m. Thursdays. Hearts & Hands, a sewing and craft activity, is held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays.
