Hiwassee Dam – Traffic was blocked on N.C. 294 following a traffic collision late Friday afternoon.
Between 5:30 and 6 p.m., a Chevrolet pickup rear-ended a sedan traveling west on the highway about a half mile from Hiwassee Dam Middle School/High School.
According to witnesses, the pickup struck the rear driver side of the sedan, forcing the vehicle’s back end to veer off to the right side of the road, leaving the back end slightly in a ditch.
A local resident saw the crash and called it in.
Hiwassee Dam Volunteer Fire Department firefighters were first on the scene and secured the roadway.
The unidentified drivers at that time were seen walking around their vehicles, inspecting the damage, talking with each other and awaiting law enforcement and tow trucks. The N.C. Highway Patrol arrived at 6:20 p.m., followed by two tow trucks a short time later.
