Andrews – The streets of downtown were once again filled with crowds looking to celebrate Oktoberfest this past weekend.
Andrews Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sara Posey Davis said while some vendors
did cancel ahead of Saturday’s forecast rain showers, the majority showed up despite early morning drizzles.
Live music rang out through downtown with Dead Bread opening, Betty & Friends holding down the mid-afternoon through peals of thunder and cracks of lightning, which quickly moved some of the crowd indoors until the rains passed, with the Brother Band taking the late-afternoon slot to round out the day.
The Andrews Young Entrepreneurs, who usually appear once a month at the Andrews Farmers Market, also were on hand with their handmade wares and crafts. Other vendor tents ranged from civic organizations including the Andrews Garden Club and Rotary Club of Murphy to Newfound Meadows Farms.
Crowds once again held aloft their mugs, with wristbands proudly showing to cheer on new beer taps with Hoppy Trout Brewing Co.’s Oktoberfest and FernCrest’s signature wines offered as well.
With the city’s new Social District having been implemented the night before for Food Truck Friday attendees could also be seen navigating the lines of vendors along Main Street, with specially designated cups from both Happy Trout Brewing, Snowbird Mountains Brewery and The Tattered Tartan Pub.
The chamber’s next events include a final Food Truck Friday on Oct. 24 and the annual Christmas on Main scheduled for Saturday Nov. 22. The Andrews Chamber of Commerce office is at 955 Main St. downtown.
