Ranger – Saturday’s activities at the Ranger Volunteer Fire Department brought out members of the community for several hours of fun.
The open house was not only filled with various activities but learning opportunities as well. The department demonstrated how a fire blanket can put out a fire, such as those that occur while cooking.
Firefighters brought put their ladder truck and hoisted a large U.S. flag above the crowd.
Kids had plenty to do with bounce houses, a pool using a department drop tank, and interactive search and rescue exercise to locate a missing doll in a dark room.
Large search and rescue drones flew overhead which garnered some attention from onlookers, thanks to Fannin County (Ga.) Emergency Management. Folks were donating blood at the Blood Assurance bloodmobile, while others were donating money to help with department needs.
The sounds of breaking glass and crunching metal came from a corner area of the grounds. The sounds were emanating from a vehicle extrication demo that had folks gathering around to watch.
Search and rescue dogs were also on hand to demo their duties, and no one went hungry with the food and beverages that were being served up. The weather was cool, sunny and bright for the day’s events.
