Murphy – The town has two new members on its seven-member council following the Nov. 4 municipal elections.
The Murphy council will have five returning members – Mayor Tim Radford and council members Cindy Chastain, Barry McClure, Charlene Smith and Gail Walker Stansell.
Mayor Tim Radford ran unopposed after his only challenger, Jeff Crane, passed away shortly after filing. On his Facebook page, Radford was succinct.
“Thank you Murphy,” he posted.
Chastain, who was appointed to the board to fill a vacancy, was the top vote-getter in her first election.

“I am grateful to everyone who voted in the election, particularly those who chose to vote for me,” she posted on her Facebook page. “I am looking forward to serving the Town of Murphy the next four years. I also appreciate all the friends and family who couldn’t vote in this election but still sent messages of encouragement.”
Smith was the top vote-getter when she ran as a write-in candidate in 2021. She came in second on Nov. 4, just two votes behind Chastain.
“Thank you Murphy residents for your support and vote in yesterday’s municipal election,” she posted on her Facebook page. “I am honored to serve our town another 4 years and look forward continuing the work ahead. I appreciate my friends and family for their encouragement and kind words! You are awesome!”
McClure came in fourth to become the most senior member of the town council following Frank Dickey’s departure.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all the kind words of encouragement and those who were able to vote for me for Murphy City Council this election and the past elections,” McClure posted on his Facebook page.
“I will be proudly serving my fourth term and look forward to keeping the great accomplishments continuing in the Town of Murphy. As I always say, #MurphyProud.”
Walker Stansell received the fifth-most votes to keep her seat.
