Murphy – Four Square Community Action Inc. held its second annual
Pickleball for a Purpose Tournament at the pickleball courts in Konehete Veterans Park on Saturday, with a storm that made use of Sunday’s rain date.
Men’s winners were:
- Nelson Shwe.
- Simon Childs.
- Jan Jardine.
Women’s winners were:
- Rebecca Collura.
- Jeri Lash.
- Brenda Jarvis.
The organization will also hold another round-robin tournament Saturday. at the Stecoah Valley Center at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., with a rain date of Oct. 11.
Touted as a fundraiser to supplement grants the organization receives the monies raised will go to assist local low-income individuals and families in need in Cherokee, Clay, Graham and Swain counties. Some of the varied assistance Four Square provides includes food delivery, health services support, home repairs and transportation.
Celebrating its 60th
year in operation, Four Square has worked diligently in the area to offer assistance and support for those in North Carolina’s four western-most counties since 1964.
