Murphy – The Murphy Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization hosted a Winter Carnival for students and families Friday.
After the success of the PTO’s Fun Run to raise funds toward playground upgrades for Murphy Elementary, organizers wanted to create a fun event to thank students and their families for their participation and help during the event. The Winter Carnival was free, including all of the games and activities.
The event included activities such as a face painting booth, photo booth, photo props, pinewood derby race track, blow-up igloo play area, bowling, a ring toss and hook game, craft station, balloon animals and swords, pin the hat on the snowman, basketball, bean bag toss and a craft table. Each game included small prizes for the students participating, and all attendees could have free popcorn and water during the event.
The Murphy Elementary PTO wants to share a special thank you to all of the businesses that supported this fun, free event for the students, families and school:
- Ware Chevrolet’s “Chevy Back to School Program” made this event free for the school community this year.
- Autumn Ritz team provided a blow-up igloo play area.
- Jubilee Party Rentals set up a photo booth.
- Cindy with Festive Fairies set up a face-painting booth.
- Other businesses that contributed to the fun, including free popcorn and water for all attendees, include Boy Scouts Pack 409, Harpp Flower Farm, First United Methodist Church and Davis Designs.
They want to further thank the volunteers who made the event possible. The PTO parents helped plan, set up, run booths and more for this event.
In addition, Murphy Middle and Murphy High Beta Club members helped run games and interact with the elementary students throughout the night. Murphy Elementary’s Mr. Michall helped set up the event, while art teacher Cicely Cable spent her evening doing face painting with Festive Fairies.
“This event wouldn’t have been possible without everyone’s help and support, and the PTO appreciates everything the community does to support the students of Murphy Elementary,” PTO President Lea Posey said.
The Murphy Elementary PTO hosted a raffle leading up to the event, raising $1,500. The basket being raffled off contained a $150 Ramsey’s Kitchen Gift Certificate, $300 Mandara Spa Gift Certificate, one-night stay at Murphy’s Best Western, $100 Walmart Gift Card, two $50 Amazon Gift Cards, $25 Chick-fil-A Gift Card, an oil change from Strickland Brothers and a variety of cold-weather accessories from Lowe’s.
“We use these funds for upcoming things such as teacher/staff appreciation week and end of the school year fun for students,” Posey said. Beverly Cook won the raffle.
