Culberson – A local man with a criminal history, including a sex crime, was being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center in Murphy charged with trying to kill a relative and assaulting sheriff’s deputies on Sept. 20.
Deputies responding to a call to the 9600 block of U.S. 64 West and found Jonathan Kisselburg, 41, naked, locked out of the residence and holding a knife.
The victim, who according to county records resides at the same address as Kisselburg, told law enforcement that he locked Kisselburg out of the residence after Kisselburg assaulted him with a pocketknife.
According to court records, Kisselburg assaulted the victim with a folding blade pocketknife, “a deadly weapon, with the intent to kill him.”
s he was being taken into custody, Kisselburg shoved his head and shoulders into the arresting deputy, pushing him to the ground and cutting his right arm. Kisselburg allegedly assaulted another deputy transporting him to jail, brushing the deputy’s knee.
Kisselburg is being held at the detention center in lieu of $30,000 bond.
He has a lengthy criminal history including a second degree forcible rape conviction in Fannin County, Ga., in September 2003, a first-degree rape charge in 2016 and failing to register as a sex offender in North Carolina that year.
