Murphy – Local resident Braden Rumfelt let his voice do the talking Monday night during his audition on American Idol, and he left with a golden ticket.
Despite any nerves that may have been present, countrynow.com said Braden “effortlessly tapped into the moving tone and blended power” of Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush” with vulnerability, using his unique and steady vocals that perfectly weaved alongside the gentle plucking of his brother’s guitar playing.
The audition left judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan wanting to hear more.
Underwood said she was surprised but happy with the talent she just heard. Bryan said he also felt Braden’s nerves and wanted to “shake” the tension out of him.
“You have a top-end to your voice,” Richie said. “When we can wake the outside of you up to combine it with the inside of you, we’ve got show business.”
The judges collectively concurred that Rumfelt had great potential and was likely to do well in the competition. On the count of three, they each shouted out their votes, which consisted of “yes” all across the board.
