Murphy – The “Holy Smoke” fundraising dinner at St. William Catholic Church was a barbecued blessing Thursday evening.
About 225 hungry people came out to the Cherokee County Ministerial Association’s annual fundraiser, which offered no shortage of home-prepared dishes and desserts.
Pastors from different area churches cooked up their favorite chilis, stews, soups and other dishes before serving potluck entrees and sides to those in attendance. Deserts included brownies, cookies, cakes and more.
Some folks had difficulty choosing which items to take from the wide variety of eats and treats, as the human belly can only hold so much. Beverages accompanied the meal, and everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves while engaging in conversations with others.
The evening’s weather seemed perfect for the
event – warm and bright. It looked like a whole family gathering together for a family supper.
The Cherokee County Ministerial Association raised $3,605, which will be used toward helping folks in need of electric and rent payments this winter, according to Vickie Dockery, treasurer of the association.
