Murphy – Amanda Carroll, a lifelong resident and seasoned legal professional, officially took office as clerk of Superior Court in a swearing-in ceremony Saturday at the Cherokee County Courthouse.
Carroll steps into the role following the retirement of the Roger Gibson. Tessa Sellers, resident Superior Court judge for District 43, presided in the swearing-in ceremony.
Gibson, a Republican, was re-elected to the position in 2022. Sellers selected Carroll to serve the remainder of his term.
Carroll has nearly a decade of service with the Cherokee County Clerk’s Office and more than 20 years in the legal field. She has been assistant civil clerk, criminal clerk, bookkeeper and cashier while at the Cherokee County office.
Before joining the clerk’s office in 2015, Carroll spent more than 20 years as a certified paralegal and legal assistant. Her work included preparing closing documents and foreclosure packages, managing trust accounts and coordinating with banks.
Carroll was born and raised in Cherokee County, graduated from Hiwassee Dam High School and built her life alongside her family in the community. She is married to Jason Carroll, owner of Carroll’s Body Shop in Murphy. Their son, Ethan Carroll, works as a painter with the family business.
Her parents are Tom and Ava Anderson. Carroll is an active member of Grape Creek Baptist Church.
“I am so honored to be given the opportunity to serve Cherokee County as their clerk,” she said in a release. “I look forward to working with the attorneys and helping everyone in our county.”
The clerk of Superior Court manages administrative, judicial and financial duties within the Cherokee County legal system, ensuring court services are delivered efficiently and transparently to the public.
