Murphy – Several local restaurants took part in making a Christmas luncheon special for 70 ladies from the Faithful Hearts Women’s Ministry at Shepherd of the Mountains Church for the first Taste of Murphy event on Dec. 8.
The Christmas luncheon included beautifully prepared and tasty samplings of food and desserts from Mariolino’s Italian Cuisine, Parker’s Burgers & Sweets, Pops Mountaintop Ice Cream, Red Brick Deli, ShoeBooties Cafe, So’s Good Kitchen and Yogi’s Neighborhood Grill. The menu included soups, salads, rolls, Philly cheesesteak egg rolls, crab rangoons with toppings and fortune cookies as well as cookie parfaits, creme brûlée, wet coconut cake, German chocolate pie and chocolate brownies and blondies.
Each of the ladies were served individual plates for their tasting pleasure during the dessert contest portion of the luncheon. Afterward, they marked their individual ballot with their favorite dessert. Two winners tied for first place – ShoeBooties with its creme brûlée, and Yogi’s for its peppermint chocolate cheesecake.
Debi Coker, president of the Faithful Hearts Women’s Ministry, said the ladies appreciate each restaurant for making the Christmas luncheon so memorable.
So’s Good Kitchen is usually closed on the day of the luncheon. However, Mr. So opened his restaurant to prepare the treats just for the special event.
A special thank you also goes out to Jackie Bispo, who met with each of the restaurants, helping make the Taste of Murphy a success.
“As a result of our meal together, we left feeling the love of our Murphy community, and we’re ready to support these eateries when needing a night away from our own kitchens,” Coker said.
