Unaka – The community celebrated the Unaka Daffodil Festival on Saturday. This event was a Spring Fling celebration focused on fun, fellowship and food.
While the event was held at the Unaka Community Center and hosted by the Unaka Community Development Club, the event was a community-wide effort with support from High Lonesome Therapeutic Equestrian Center, Unaka Baptist Church, the Unaka Volunteer Fire Department and Ogreeta Baptist Church.
The event kicked off at 11 a.m. with an Easter Egg hunt for kids of all ages in the community, where nearly 20 kids hunted for eggs and prizes sponsored by the Unaka Baptist Church. There were also a variety of games and crafts available for kids to participate in. Kids also got a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny, who hopped over from High Lonesome Therapeutic Equestrian Center for photos and fun.
After the kids were given time to run, play, and enjoy all of the outdoor activities together, everyone came inside at 12:30 p.m. to enjoy a lunch that was provided by the Unaka Community Development Club, High Lonesome Therapeutic Equestrian Center, Unaka Volunteer Fire Department and Ogreeta Baptist Church.
Nearly 50 community members came out to enjoy food and fellowship with their neighbors. The club keeps striving to bring together the community, and their efforts are seen with the increasing numbers of people attending each event.
“We may have had a difficult time finding some daffodils thanks to the last cold snap, but we didn’t have to search for our friends and fun,” said Holly Willis, president of the club.
