Ranger – The new owners of Comfort Grub invite everyone to come help celebrate their grand reopening this weekend.
The weekend of celebration kicks off at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce. Afterward, Comfort Grub is hosting a Fall Festival Craft Show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with around 14 vendors selling a wide variety of crafted and handmade items.
On Sunday, Comfort Grub is hosting an Eastern Hot Rodders car show, Gears & Grub, as the grand finale to their grand reopening. The car show, which will be from noon-3 p.m., is open to all makes and models and free for the community to attend.
Comfort Grub was recently purchased and reopened by the Butler family. When Jennifer Butler’s husband was laid off from the job he had for 20 years just a year shy of retirement, they wanted to find a business that would create opportunity for them and their adult children.
They saw the sign when dining out at Comfort Grub one day and – even though they hadn’t worked in the restaurant industry before – they knew this was the opportunity they had been looking for.
“We’re thankful the previous owners are sticking with us for a little bit to help us learn what we need to know, but we’re all eager to take this journey together as a family and provide the community with delicious food,” Butler said.
The whole family, including Butler’s parents, are excited and involved with running the restaurant, but they are also looking to hire more staff. They plan to offer benefits to their employees because they feel this is the right thing to do for the people who work with them.
“Many in the restaurant industry find themselves working 50-60 hours per week, but we want to create an environment where our employees only work 40 hours per week,” Butler said.
Previous fans of Comfort Grub will appreciate that they plan to keep the menu the same. The only changes they will be making are adding more culinary options.
“We want to keep the down-home atmosphere and home cooking everyone loves the same,” Butler said.
The biggest change guests will notice is the extended hours – from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, then closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
“We will keep the counter service for lunch because we know a lot of people need to get in and get out, but we plan to add sit-down dinner service,” Butler said.
“We’re incredibly proud and blessed to be able to give our kids a future with this business. It’s been a learning curve, but if you don’t try something, nothing will ever change. We hope that the community will come out to celebrate this milestone with our family, and that we can continue to provide them with the food they love.”
