Andrews – The Andrews Board of Aldermen reinstated Steve Jordan as a member during a specially called meeting Friday.
Concurrent with an order from the N.C. Court of Appeals dated Oct. 10, the meeting was called due to the order’s statement and ruling that the court has “sustained” the appeal made by Jordan to a claim in August about his residency originally filed by Alderman James Mclean in July.
Jordan had a hearing in August with the Cherokee County Board of Elections regarding Mclean’s complaint. After his case was denied by the county board, Jordan entered into the state’s appeals process.
Friday’s order from the Court of Appeals also states that Jordan’s appeal is “stayed pending this court’s ruling on the petitioner’s petition” and that “a ruling will be made upon the filing of a response to the petition.”
The three-judge panel of the court ruled unanimously in the order to reseat Jordan.
Jordan was voted out of his alderman seat at the board’s September meeting, despite the fact that his state appeal had not yet been heard. Both Jordan and Mayor James Reid abstained from that vote.
