There are plenty of sports and recreation outlets for local youth and adults to enjoy, and since 2008 residents ages 50 and older have been able to enjoy the fun and fitness of the annual Cherokee & Clay County Senior Games, a part of the N.C. Senior Games that started in 1983.
The Senior Games and SilverArts is an exciting six-week sports and arts festival conducted each spring exclusively for men and women who are residents of Cherokee and Clay counties. It features events in more than 20 different sports and games, 40 SilverArts categories as well as four literary and six performing arts categories.
Each spring, local games – which are designed to get older adults up and moving through sports and the arts – are conducted at the county level, with the state finals in the fall. In Cherokee County, registration opened Monday, while opening day is at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18; see the special insert inside this edition of the Cherokee Scout for details.
You’re never too old to play, and it’s never too late to create. Coordinator Terence Faries says, “Come and join us this year; you will be glad you gave it a try – for the fun of it!” Details: Visit cherokeecountyseniorgames.org.
