Jasper, Ga. – Two Murphy residents were arrested in Pickens County, Ga., on Nov. 15 following a “targeted drug-trafficking investigation” that included the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Jared Dickerson, 48, and Chelsea Taylor, 35, were being held in the Pickens County Jail without bail on charges of trafficking in cocaine, illegal drugs, marijuana or methamphetamine. The arrests followed “a targeted drug-trafficking investigation” by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division, the sheriff’s office said in a release.

“During the operation, agents developed information indicating that Jared Dickerson and Chelsea Taylor, both of Murphy, were routinely traveling to Georgia to acquire significant quantities of illegal drugs for resale in Cherokee County,” the sheriff’s office said.
Sheriff’s deputies from Cherokee County, N.C., and Pickens County “conducted a strategic traffic stop in Pickens” as Dickerson and Taylor were returning to North Carolina. A search of the vehicle allegedly found illegal narcotics including 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine, 5 grams of fentanyl, 40 grams of cocaine, ecstasy and marijuana.
“This operation demonstrates the strength of our alliances and our united commitment to stopping the flow of illegal drugs into our communities,” Cherokee County Sheriff Dustin Smith said in a release.
