The Western North Carolina Shrine Club held a tremendously successful fundraiser Saturday at Ranger Baptist Church for local student Lilly Cash, who was badly injured in an automobile accident as a young child.

Cash is in need of a $16,400 computer that will help her complete her studies. Cherokee County Commissioners Roy Dickey and Gary “Hippie” Westmoreland were among the lead organizers of the event, with fellow Commissioner C.B. McKinnon also on hand buying plenty of cakes.

Auctioneer Greg “Pork Chop” Huskins helped keep the money flowing from attendees, who helped raise enough money to buy the computer.

“The response was amazing,” Westmoreland said. “People here really take care of their own.”

Dickey said he wanted to thank the entire county of individuals, businesses and churches who played a part in raising the money.
