Andrews – The Andrews boys varsity basketball team received a first-round bye, then played two games at home before hitting the road in the fourth round of the state 1A playoffs.
In the second round they defeated The College Prep & Leadership Academy, then they took down Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy in the third round.
In the fourth round, they hit the road for the first time since the playoffs and faced Jackson Day.
Cats fall on the road
The Wildcat’s season came to an end Monday night as they fell to Jackson Day 57-39.
The Jackson Day Mariners took an early lead and maintained the entire game en route to the win.
Andrews stayed just a step behind in the first half, but the Mariners pulled away in the second half as the Cats’ season came to a close.
The Wildcats end the season with a 18-11 overall record.
Boys beat Phoenix
In the third round of the playoffs, Andrews defeated Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy 59-47 at home Saturday, securing the win with a strong second half.
The Phoenix came out of the gate on fire with 15 points in the first quarter to lead 15-8 heading into the second period. Both teams dropped 13 points for the Phoenix to lead 28-21 at halftime.
The tide turned in favor of the Wildcats in the third quarter, as they outscored the Phoenix 14-9 to take a 37-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter. With 24 points in the final frame, the Wildcats defeated the Phoenix 59-47 to advance to the fourth round of the playoffs.
The Wildcats were led by Levi Clark’s 25-point game. 13 of his 25 points came in the fourth quarter. Gabe Clark also scored in double digits with 14 points, while senior Logan Shuler had seven points in his final home game.
Cats win at home
In a close battle, the Wildcats defeated the College Prep & Leadership Academy Royals 76-73 in the second round of the playoffs. The Wildcats kicked off their playoff run Thursday with a home game, earning the win to send the Cats to the third round for the first time in over 20 years.
Both teams dropped 14 points in the first quarter. The Wildcats battled hard to outscore the Royals to head into halftime ahead 36-32.
The Royals came out of halftime on fire and dropped 23 points in the third quarter to head to the fourth quarter leading 55-53. With 23 points of their own, the Wildcats fought back in the fourth quarter to win the game 76-73 and advance to the third round.
The Wildcats were led by Gabe Clark’s 20 points and Levi Clark’s 19 points, as the brothers combined for 39 of Andrews’ 76 points. Shuler also scored in double digits with 12 points.
