Andrews – The Wildcats lost back-to-back games to Smoky Mountain Conference rivals, the Robbinsville Black Knights.
On April 2, the Wildcats headed to Robbinsville to take on the Black Knights where they lost 9-1. Andrews’ lone run came in the first inning by Eli Aguilar. After Aguilar’s run, Robbinsville scored three runs in the bottom of the first and didn’t look back.
In the top of the third, Aguilar got his second hit of the game. In the next at bat, Kelby Waldroup singled for their third hit of the game. With Waldroup’s hit, Aguilar advanced to third base to put him in scoring position. Logan Shuler came up to bat and was walked to load the bases. A strikeout and groundout followed to end the inning and they stranded three base-runners.
Neither team scored until Robbinsville scored two runs in the fifth, including a home run, and they added four more in the sixth to secure their 9-1 win.
Waldroup started on the mound for the Wildcats and pitched 5.1 innings with 102 pitches. Logan Shuler relieved him and pitched the remainder of the game.
Andrews scored one run on three hits and had three errors. Robbinsville scored nine runs on seven hits and had an error.
On April 5, Andrews hosted Robbinsville again in their last game before spring break. Robbinsville defeated Andrews 6-2.
The Black Knights got on the board first scoring one run in the first and second innings. The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the second with two runs to tie the game. The game remained tied until Robbinsville scored one run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to secure the 6-2 win.
Andrews had two runs on three hits with four errors. Robbinsville had six runs on 13 hits and had one error.
When they return from spring break, the Wildcats will head to Swain County on Tuesday, April 16. Friday, April 19 they will return home to host Swain with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
