Andrews – The Lady Wildcats fell to Hayesville 52-35 on Jan. 22.

Ava Shook led the Yellow Jackets (13-45) in scoring with 25 points. She went 5-5 from beyond the arch in the first half to give Hayesville a 25-14 halftime lead.

Andrews (8-4) just couldn’t get their usual scorers into a rhythm in the first half. Kinleigh Queen was the hottest player, as she hit for eight of her 13 points by halftime, but it wasn’t enough to get the Lady Cats into the lead column as they trailed 23-14.

Hayesville concentrated its defensive efforts on Kylie Donaldson to hold her under her usual double-digit scoring performance. They held Donaldson to only three points in the first half and five more in the second half, as Donaldson was held to 10 percent shooting from the field.

Andrews made a run in the third period, closing to within six points, as they trailed 37-31 at the end of three periods. However, the Lady Cats could only manage four points in the final stanza as Hayesville pulled away, outscoring the Lady Wildcats 14-4 to net the final score.

The Lady Wildcats were led by Queen with 13 points. She was the only Andrews player in double figures.

Swain wins 53-25

The Lady Wildcats dropped their second game of the week to Swain 53-25 on Friday. The Cats just couldn’t get going in the first half and were unable to catch up in the second half.

Donaldson scored the only field goal the Lady Cats had in the first half, as Swain led 28-2 at the end of the first half.

Queen got the Lady
Cats going in the third period, when she scored four of Andrews’ six points. Swain extended their lead behind the shooting of Marlee Hicks, who hit eight of Swain’s 13 third-period points. Swain led by 32 at the end of three.

Andrews closed the gap in the fourth period behind an 81 percent free throw shooting percentage. The Lady Cats hit 13-16 free throws in the final stanza and closed the gap to 28.

Donaldson was the only player in double figures for the Lady Cats with 11.
