Aquatic Club signup today
The Cherokee County Aquatic Club will have an organizational and registration meeting from 6-7 p.m. today and Thursday poolside at Murphy Health & Fitness, 695 Connahetta St.
The CCAC, which is Cherokee County’s park and recreation swim team, provides a competitive swimming experience for children ages 5-18 from Cherokee, Clay and Union counties. Coaches promote skill development, maximizing individual success and self esteem through hard work and development. Skills taught include good sportsmanship, decision making, time management and setting goals.

TC women’s soccer splits
The Jaguars’ women’s soccer team continued Smoky Mountain Conference play and picked up their second win of the season.
In their first match last week on March 11, Tri-County Early College lost to Murphy 6-0. The Jaguars fought through the tough match against the top team in the 1A conference.
On Thursday, Tri-County Early College got its second win of the season against Hayesville 2-1. Hayden Cunningham on a penalty kick 12 minutes into the match. Allison Hernandez score the game-winning goal on a corner kick with four minutes remaining in the match.
For their next match, the Jaguars will head to Swain County to take on the Maroon Devils at 6 p.m. Thursday.
BLAIRSVILLE, Ga.
3 track teams at invitational
The Hiwassee Dam, Murphy and Tri-County Early College track and field teams headed to north Georgia last week for the Mountain Top Invitational on March 12.
Murphy had many athletes with strong finishes, including Jordan Oliver, who placed first in the wheelchair discus, wheelchair shot put and 100-meter wheelchair race. Corrine Cotton also got first in the 400m dash, while Murphy’s 4x200m relay team placed first.
On the boys side, Camden Breazeale placed first in the 110m hurdles. Murphy had a top-10 finish in almost every event they competed in.
Hiwassee Dam’s Ethan Russell competed well in the three distance events he competed in. He got first place in the 1,600m and 3,200m runs, as well as a second-place finish in the 800m run.
TCEC also had athletes in a wide range of events place well in the meet. Fern Crayton got the only first place for TCEC in the 800m run. The relay teams finished well, with the girls getting fourth place in the 4x200m and 4x400m events, while the boys relay teams placed second in the 4x800m and fourth in the 4x200m.
The three teams will compete in their first SMC meets of the season at 3:15 p.m. today. Andrews will host, and TCEC will attend that meet. Murphy will host, with Hiwassee Dam competing in it.

Cats’ baseball begin season
The Wildcats’ baseball team kicked off their season March 12 but came up short against Hayesville 13-5.
The Yellow Jackets got the scoring started early with seven runs in the first inning. Andrews got on the board with two runs in the second inning.
Hayesville added onto their lead in the middle innings, while Andrews scored one run in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings. Neither team scored in the final two innings, as Hayesville secured the win.
The Wildcats scored five runs on seven hits, while Hayesville scored 13 runs on nine hits. Both teams had an error in the game.
Andrews will head across Cherokee County to take on Hiwassee Dam at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Announcing hoops honors
Andrews, Hiwassee Dam and Murphy had multiple players honored in end-of-season awards for the Smoky Mountain and Little Smoky Mountain conferences.
Andrews’ Cam Rattler was named SMC Player of the Year, the second Player of the Year for Andrews basketball in the last 10 years. Also from Andrews, junior Kylie Donaldson and junior Ty Clark were voted All-Conference. Honorable mentions from Andrews include sophomore Alexis Beasley, junior Landon Greene and freshman Gabe Clark.
Murphy’s Dominick Rummer was voted All-Conference, while Xander Wachacha and Zach Skogen are honorable mentions. For Murphy girls basketball, Cayla Geer received an honorable mention.
In the Little Smoky Mountain Conference, Hiwassee Dam had two Player of the Year winners with Jonah Hamby and Olivia McNabb. Olivia McNabb was also selected to the All-District second team. Brinkley Payne, Katie McNabb and Brooklyn Hyde were voted All-Conference on the girls side.
For the boys, Clay Davis, Dawson Headley and Aiden Bennett were voted All-Conference. Honorable mentions were given to Braiden Ledford and Sky Taylor. Both David Payne and Mark Raper were named Coach of the Year.
SKY VALLEY, Ga.
Cats, Dogs on the links
The Andrews and Murphy golf teams competed in a nine-hole match at Sky Valley Country Club on March 12.
For the Bulldogs, Andrew Barolet shot 42, Bradley Golden shot 46, Connor Golden shot 42 and Will Joiner shot 51. Murphy had a team total of 182, which placed second at the meet behind Franklin. For individuals, Barolet placed fourth.
For Andrews, Brady Queen shot 55 and Tucker Stalcup shot 59.
Franklin, Hayesville, Highlands and Robbinsville also competed in the match.
