CHEROKEE COUNTY
Basketball rule change
The National Federation of State High School Associations has implemented a new rule in time for the 2023-24 season.
- Individual fouls. There will not be any more one-and-one free throw attempts. The bonus, which will always be two shots, begins at five team fouls.
- Team fouls. They reset after every quarter. The scoreboard will show a maximum of five fouls per quarter.
The rule change, which also is being implemented in youth basketball, will take some time to get used to. While schools without a football team have already begin practicing, those with a team were only able to hit the gym together starting Monday.
