ANDREWS
West set at Shrine Bowl
Andrews Wildcats football senior lineman Tyler West has been selected to play in the annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
The annual game, one of the oldest bowl games in America, and will take place Saturday, Dec. 16, at Spartanburg (S.C.) High School. All profits from the game go to Shriner’s Hospital, a world-renowned health-care facility for children.
West, who has committed to play college football at N.C. State, is a three-star recruit and the No. 29 ranked player in North Carolina’s Class of 2024, according to the 247 Sports Composite. He is one just four players from western North Carolina, and one of eight players from the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s class 1A to be named to the 44-player roster. He’s also one of only two players from the Smoky Mountain Conference, joining Robbinsville’s Cuttler Adams.
RALEIGH
Delayed trout waters Oct. 1
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will implement Delayed Harvest Trout Water Regulations on 33 trout waters on Oct. 1. Under these regulations, no trout may be harvested from these waters between Sunday and one half hour after sunset June 1, 2024.
No natural bait may be possessed and anglers can only fish with an artificial lure, which means the lure does not contain or has not been treated by a substance that attracts fish through taste or smell, and one single hook. The commission stocks Delayed Harvest Trout Waters from fall through spring to increase anglers’ chances of catching fish.
