College joins a conference
Young Harris College Athletics’ move from the Peach Belt Conference to the Conference Carolinas was made official on July 1.
The Conference Carolinas originally voted unanimously to add Young Harris as its 14th member in November 2022. Other schools in the NCAA Division II conference include Belton, Belmont Abbey, Chowan, Converse, Emmanuel, Erskine, Francis Marion, King, Lees-McRae, Mount Olive, UNC Pembroke, North Greenville and Southern Wesleyan.
“Young Harris College is excited to join Conference Carolinas,” Young Harris President Drew Van Horn said in a release. “The conference has a long history of athletic and academic success and is one of the most innovative conferences in NCAA Division II. The Mountain Lions look forward to a long association with the other institutions in Conference Carolinas.”

Throw camp set July 24
Murphy High School will be holding a camp for interested track & field throwers in grades 6-12 from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, July 24, with registration starting at 8:30.

NANTAHALA
Hoops camp on in August
The Nantahala Recreation Basketball League is hosting a basketball camp this summer for rising first- through eighth-graders from 9-11 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 7-8, in the Nantahala School gym.
Cost is $10 per kid, which lowers to $5 for each kid after the first. For details, call coaches Megan McLean or Jordan Reid at 828-321-4388.
