Salinas hits best times

Fresh off a third-place finish in the 3,200-meter run at the N.C. High School Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field State championships, Andrews freshman O’Malley Salinas took to the track again on May 26-27 at the RunningLane Track Championships.

Competing against some of the best runners in the country, Salinas set new personal records in both the 1,600-meter (4 minutes, 38.68 seconds) and 3,200-meter runs (9:55.74). He improved his 1,600-meter time by seven seconds and his 3,200-meter time by three seconds.

Soccer set June 19-21

Murphy High School will hold its eighth annual Boys & Girls Youth Soccer Camp from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, June 12-14, at the field behind Lowe’s.

Campers will have the chance to strengthen their knowledge of the game and learn from current and former players and coaches. Kids ages 5-14 are welcome and will need to bring soccer cleats, shins guard, a soccer ball and water or another sports drink.

Baseball camp set

Young baseball players will have the opportunity to attend the Murphy High School baseball camp from Monday through Wednesday, June 19-21. The camp will run from 9-11:30 a.m. on the field at Konehete Veterans Park for rising seventh- to ninth-graders.

Volleyball camp set

Andrews High School will hold its youth volleyball camp for rising third- through eighth-graders from noon-2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, June 19-21.

Cost of the camp will be $40. Players will improve fundamentals, learn property volleyball skills and get work in game-play scenarios.

Registration system set

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is launching a new license and vessel registration system Saturday, July 1.

As part of the transition to the new system, hunting and fishing licenses and vessel registrations will be unavailable from 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, to 8 a.m. July 1.

Volleyball camp set

Murphy High School will hold its annual volleyball camp for fourth- through eighth-graders Monday and Tuesday, June 26-27.

Wrestling camp set

Murphy High School wrestling will host a camp for rising sixth- through 12th-graders from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 23-24, in the high school gym.

University of Tennessee-Chattanooga wrestlers Caleb and Matthew Waddell will be special guests at the camp. Matthew is a three-time NCAA qualifier, and both were Georgia High School Association state champions at Gilmer High School.
