Trout waters open June 3

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will open 34 trout streams and two lakes classified as delayed harvest to trout harvest from June 3 through Sept. 30.

The trout will be open to anglers ages 18 and under from 6 a.m. to 11:59 a.m. June 3, then will open up to all anglers at noon. Anglers can keep up to seven trout per day, with no gear or bait restrictions and no minimum size limits.

Delayed harvest trout waters are posted with diamond-shape, black-and-white signs. For details and maps, visit ncwildlife.org/trout.

HAYESVILLE

Rotary golf tourney set

The Rotary Club of Murphy’s Tournament of Champions will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Chatuge Shores Golf Club.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with the first tee at 9 a.m. The first-place team will receive $650, second place will receive $400 and third place will receive $250.

Camps set for baseball

Young baseball players will have the opportunity to attend two camps in Murphy this summer. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will holds its annual Dinger Derby Baseball Camp from. June 5-7, while Murphy High School will hold a camp from June 19-21.

The FCA camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon at Konehete Veterans Park for ages 6-18, with former Atlanta Braves outfielder Otis Nixon as one of the instructors. Those who attend will receive a signed poster by Nixon, a signed baseball if you bring your own ball, as well as a certificate of achievement.

Cost is $100 per camper, and each sibling will receive a 25 percent discount. If a family cannot afford to send their child, the camp will try to find a sponsor. Message the FCA Baseball camp Facebook page to register.

Murphy High’s camp will run from 9-11:30 a.m. on the high school field at Konehete Veterans Park for rising seventh- to ninth-graders. Please bring a glove, helmet and bat if you have it.

Murphy High School will host the first Torin Rogers Lady Bulldogs Youth Basketball Camp for rising first- through eighth-graders from 9 a.m. to noon Monday and Tuesday, June 5-6.

Cost will be $40 per camper. Scan the QR code or click the Google link on the camp flyer via the Murphy High School Athletics Facebook page to sign up.

Rogers, who graduated from Murphy in 2022, is a rising sophomore on the University of Richmond women’s basketball team. She helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to two N.C. High School Athletic Association state championships and was a two-time Smoky Mountain Conference Player of the Year.

Football set June 12-15

Murphy High School will hold its annual football camp from 9-11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, June 12-15.

Cost will be $75. Drop-off will take place at the Murphy track every day.

Soccer set June 19-21

Murphy High School will be hold its eighth annual Boys & Girls Youth Soccer Camp from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, June 12-14, at the field behind Lowe’s.

Campers will have the chance to strengthen their knowledge of the game and learn from current and former players and coaches. Kids ages 5-14 are welcome and will need to bring soccer cleats, shins guard, a soccer ball and water or another sports drink.

Bulldogs hoops camp

The Murphy High School boys basketball team will be having its youth camp for boys seven years old to rising eighth graders on June 8-9 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost of the camp is $45, and registration will be completed on the first day of camp.

Volleyball camp set

Andrews High School will be holding its youth volleyball camp for rising third through eighth graders from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on June 19-21. Cost of the camp will be $40. Players will improve fundamentals, learn property volleyball skills and get work in game play scenarios. Instruction will be led by Andrews coaches and players. Wrestling June 23-24

Murphy High School wrestling will host a camp for rising sixth- through 12th-graders from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 23-24, in the high school gym.

University of Tennessee-Chattanooga wrestlers Caleb and Matthew Waddell will be special guests at the camp. Matthew is a three-time NCAA qualifier, and both were Georgia High School Association state champions at Gilmer High School in Ellijay.
