Local perfect tourney score
Andrews Shooting Team senior Brayden Rowland finished his time on the team with a bang by shooting a perfect score in shotgun at the N.C. Wildlife Commission Youth Hunter Skills Education Tournament on April 29.
Rowland’s score allowed him to advance to a shootoff in the event, where he eventually placed fifth overall in the state. The Andrews Middle School Red team also competed at the tournament, taking second in archery, two points behind Elkin.

Gutierrez a coach again
Former Murphy athletic director and girls basketball coach Ray Gutierrez was announced as the new high school varsity girls basketball coach at North Cobb Christian School on April 19.
Gutierrez previously spent four years as the Hiwassee Dam girls basketball coach, six years as the Murphy girls basketball coach and one year as the Murphy boys basketball coach. His teams went a combined 269-49, won two state championships, advanced to four 1A West regional championships and won 16 conference regular season and tournament championships.
Gutierrez resigned from Murphy last June, citing concerns about the future of Cherokee County Schools. He and his family moved to Kennesaw, where his two sons – Brayden and Banks – both attend North Cobb Christian.
