Turkey hunt on Saturday
Wild turkey hunting season opens in North Carolina on Saturday, with the youth season running from April 1-7 and the statewide season from April 8 through May 6. Hunters are limited to two turkeys per season, only one of which can be taken during the youth season.
The youth season is open to anyone under age 18; hunters ages 16 and 17 must have hunting licenses. Those under age 16 must be accompanied by a licensed adult who is at least 18 years old, but youth who have a license or hunters education card may hunt without adult supervision.
All hunters must report their turkey harvest at www.ncwildlife.org/Hunting/Big-Game-Harvest-Reporting. Hunting licenses can be purchased at the N.C. Wildlife Commission’s website and hunter education courses are available across the state and online.

Trout waters set to open
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will open about 1,000 miles of Hatchery-Supported Trout Waters in April, with the season running through Feb. 29, 2024.
Trout-supported waters, which are marked by green and white signs, have been closed since Feb. 28 for stocking. While the waters will be open for public fishing, many of the miles are privately owned.
For that reason, the commission urges anglers to respect the property they’re fishing on. Remember that landowners can take away access if they feel it’s being misused.
