Wrestling gets 1st win
Murphy wrestling won its first dual meet of the 2022-23 season on Dec. 6, knocking off Hayesville 42-36. Jacob Miller (106 pounds), Luke Hyde (126), Ashton Raxter (132), Zach Kessler (145), Mason Cook (160) all prevailed over Yellow Jackets wrestlers, while Gabe Chastain (195) and Nathan Shaw (220) both had wins by forfeit.
The Bulldogs faced Swain County on the same night, but came up short, 66-13. Hyde had a win by fall, while Cook and Miller both won by decision. The Bulldogs returned to the mat last night at Cherokee, which took place after this week’s edition of the Cherokee Scout went to press Tuesday morning.

Mugharbil to transfer
University of Florida redshirt freshman and Murphy alumni Yousef Mugharbil has entered the transfer portal after spending the last two years on the Gators football team.
After entering college as a four-star recruit, Mugharbil was injured in a motor-scooter accident last August that sidelined him for the regular season. He redshirted last year, then did not see any game action this fall.
The Florida program also went through some upheaval the last two years, as the university fired head coach Dan Mullen, who recruited Mugharbil to Gainesville, in the middle of the 2021 season. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
