RALEIGH

Disease in A third deer

A third deer in North Carolina has tested positive for chronic wasting disease, according to the N.C. Wildlife Commission.

The deer was harvested in Surry County, about 10 miles from the two previous positive case in Yadkin County. The new detection is disappointing but also a sign the agency’s response plan is working and a lot
of people are helping put
the plan into effect, according to Wildlife Management Division Chief Brad Howard.

Howard suggests disposing of deer in one of three ways if possible: bury the deer remains where you harvest the animal if possible, double bag deer remains for disposal at the closest landfill or leave the deer remains on the ground where the animal was harvested.
