Erlanger provides athletic trainers
The Cherokee County Board of Education presented a series of documents at its July 18 meeting, one of which involved an agreement between Erlanger Western Carolina and the Board of Education.
In the agreement, the board will compensate Erlanger for its actual costs to provide athletic trainers for high school sporting events. The Erlanger athletic trainers will be compensated for their wages, benefits, taxes and liability coverage, plus 5 percent of the costs.
As well as being paid for their services, the board will provide marketing opportunities for Erlanger. Some of those include placing Erlanger Sports Medicine signage at fields and gymnasiums, public announcements thanking Erlanger for their services at all games that they are there, allowing Erlanger Sports Medicine staff to wear Erlanger branded clothing and including advertisements for Erlanger Sports Medicine in the schools’ athletic programs and yearbooks.
The board also included a non-endorsement, where they will provide each student athlete with the following: “The Cherokee County Board of Education and our schools do not license, endorse, or recommend any particular medical provider, nor do we make any representations about the quality of care given by any medical provider. We urge parents to carefully evaluate the choice of a medical provider for their children.”
