CHARLOTTE
Panthers staying put
The Charlotte City Council approved an $800 million renovation plan for Bank of America Stadium on June 24.
It is a joint plan between Charlotte and Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper. Tepper agreed to pay $150 million up front, while the city will pay $650 million for the renovation.
Tepper agreed to keep the team in Charlotte through 2045 in return for the city to pay for the stadium renovations. The project will be funded by the city’s hospitality and tourism tax resources, which are required by North Carolina to be spent on projects supporting their tourism and local economy.
“We are proud to be in the Carolinas and look forward to delivering a venue that meets the needs of our community, players, and fans for years to come,” Tepper said in a statement.
