Dogs host youth camp

Murphy High School football recently hosted its annual youth football camp. There were 56 future football players who participated in drills like the 20- and 40-yard dashes.

Murphy High head football coach Joseph Watson and his staff, along with Bulldog players, helped with the camp. There were four different classifications, with awards handed out at the end of camp for each age group.

26 All-Star swim times

The Cherokee Country Aquatic Club completed their first two meets of the swim season. There have been 26 All-Star automatic qualifying times and one Junior Olympic cut time.

Sophia Evans, who competes in the ages 13-14 girls age group, had the Junior Olympic cut time with her first-place finish in the 100-meter freestyle in the meet on June 13.

The following achieved All-Star automatic qualifying times so far this season: At the June 6 meet, Elijah Whitney in the 25m free, 25m back stroke, 25m breast stroke and 50m free.

In the June 13 meet, Evans qualified in the 50m free and 100m back stroke. Natalie Lawrence qualified in the 50m free, 50m back stroke and 50m breast stroke.

Lorelie Whitney qualified in the 50m free, 50m back stroke and 50m breast stroke. Elijah Whitney qualified in the 25m free and 25m breast stroke.

Kalel Holland qualified in the 25m back stroke, while Mateo Colandrea qualified in the 50m free, 50m breast stroke and 100m freestyle. Connor Whitney qualified in the 50m free, 200m individual medley, 100m back stroke and 100m free, while Isaac Vaught qualified in the 50m free and 100m breast stroke.

Those interested can join the team until July 1.
