DETROIT
Panthers’ draft results
“With the 32nd pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select Xavier Legette,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced Friday.
Legette is a wide receiver who played at the University of South Carolina and is a native of the Carolinas, since he grew up in Mullins, S.C. The second-team All-Southeastern Conference receiver led his team in receptions and receiving touchdowns last season.
The Panthers drafted to help quarterback Bryce Young by selecting running back Jonathon Brooks in the second round and tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders in round four. They also drafted to bolster their defense by selecting linebackers Trevin Wallace and Michael Barrett in the third and seventh rounds, respectively. They also drafted cornerback Chau Smith-Wade in round five and defensive tackle Jaden Crumedy in round six.
Training camp is expected to begin in late July in Charlotte where these rookies will be on display.
Also worth noting, Charlotte native and former UNC quarterback Drake Maye was drafted third overall by the New England Patriots. He will fill the spot vacated when the Pats traded Mac Jones last season.
