Murphy softball player Emersyn Berrong was one of two players who threw out first pitches during the Mountain Youth League Dizzy Dean Opening Day on Saturday. Though the ceremony was delayed two hours, it eventually turned into a beautiful day with the sun shining bright. Berrong’s mother, Jordan, passed away on Jan. 7 from cervical cancer. Also throwing out a first pitch was Martins Creek’s Dallas Wilson, who suffered a traumatic brain injury in January 2021 but has made a remarkable recovery. Justin Fitzgerald/sports@cherokeescout.com
